My Healing Touch and Movement Horse Practice is a form of working with the horse that meets your equestrian companion's needs and teaches him how to self-manage and release stuck body postures. I provide gentle yet effective services that are tailored to helping your horse.

Chaela Sumner Healing Touch Comprehensive Equine Therapy Practitioner

Schedule a healing touch session with you and your horse. Session includes assessment and gentle, hands-on treatment.

I’ve taken (and continue to take) many courses in horse healing and bodywork, from pure energy work to working with muscles, skin, and bones. I utilize an integrated approach in working with your horse, guiding them and their bodies through subtle movements designed to release habitual movements and restore functional movement. They’re all too eager to comply, and the results can be miraculous.

My role is that of a listener, a guide, and a facilitator. My approach is always holistic, working to establish a connection with the horse. That’s when the magic happens. When I subtly explore the horse’s movements, muscles or skeleton, it is done with awareness and intention yet has a profound effect. Each movement is completed very slowly, permitting the horse’s brain and muscles to reprogram themselves and relax any tightness or tension. The brain is engaged, bypassing movement habits, and change occurs. The horse’s body and movement are freer. And the horse is empowered toward self-management.

At Healing Touch, I utilize "light touch," gentle palpations, and range-of-motion (ROM) techniques to help bypass the horse's instinctive response of fight or flight in order to effectively release tension that has been stored up. The goal is to work with the horse’s brain and teach him or her to self-manage and release tension. I’m no magician. I don’t do the horse…I work with the horse, choosing to connect in order to restore healthy movement.

This is the plan: you, your horse and me, together at the barn. You will get your horse in from wherever it's at. I will ask you to put your horse through a few gaits while I observe. Then, I work with the horse, guiding it through Range of Motion movements and other techniques. Please allow your horse two days after treatment with no work—this allows the session work to integrate.

Disclaimer: Healing Touch Comprehensive Horse Care is not a substitute for veterinary care — I may refer owners to their veterinarian, dentist, farrier, or other providers depending on what the horse is showing me.
